I Love This Commercial
Published on October 8, 2007 By Big Fat Daddy In Misc
It is silly, I know, but I can't help myself. When that commercial for Arby's comes on and the Chimps start the "Riverdance" style dance, I have to stop what I am doing and watch it. I just love it. I have no idea how they do it but it is very real looking...right down to the expressions on their chimp faces.

Over the years, there have been some great ads on TV. I used to love the beer commercials in the 70's using pro football players. My favorite was Bubba Smith touting the "easy opening pop top" then ripping off the whole top of the can., The "Clydesdales playing football" series has cracked me up more recently. Way back when Buick had a commercial showing butts going into the car's seat and claiming they had one that would fit you, too. Alka Seltzer had a great ad about fixing you up "no matter what shape your tummy is in" and showing a series of tummies...including a jack hammer operator whose gut was resting on top of the hammer and bouncing up and down like crazy...and a couple of really nice lady tummies...and it spawned a very popular instrumental hit for a group called the "T-bones".

The point is, ad people can be very creative and extremely funny. A good ad will stick and it doesn't matter how many times you see it. On the other hand, it seems that the most irritating ads get run WAY too much. And I guess it is my dino status showing again, but if I never see or hear PeptoBismol's ads with the macarena style song and dance about all that and diahrea it will be okay with me. That one bunch even has an ad about how irritating their ads are. Any way, I don't seem to see as many good ones as I used to. I have to wait for the Super Bowl to see really good ones.

Anyhow, that's how I see it, the Chimps still rule in my mind. How bout you? What ads crack ou up?

I saw this for the first time last night and roared with laughter, since I am a huge fan of river dance and lord of the dance {going to see both of them in the next 5 months} to see the chimps limp arm straight back perfect cadence dancing was to much for my funny bone to handle.

my new favorite is the couple contemplating picking up the scary trenchcoat wearing hitch-hiker with a case of beer under one arm, and a chainsaw in the other. "no, we can't pick him up, he's got a cahinsaw!" "yeah, but he's got beer." really funny.

Yeah, the beer commercials still come up with some good stuff.

Have not seen the latest Chimp ads, but I do love the Trunk Monkeys!

And Alka Seltzer?  Remember the stomach at the Psychiatrist's office?

I love the one where the kid yells at mom, "Look mom! Toby learned a new trick!" While the dog scoots his ass on the carpet. Fell out of my seat laughing.

Sorry, Doc, I replied to your question the other day but apparently didn't do something right cause it ain't here. What I was saying was that I spent a lot of the sixties and seventies overseas...eighties and nineties, too for the matter...so I have big gaps in my TV viewing. There are a lot of shows and commercials I never saw.

I love the animal ones. There is one going on now about having a choice, I think its an insurance commercial, where a guy is asking his dad for advice on what kind of pet to have...a goat, a snake, and something else, I don't recall right now. A quick shot of the yard and the snake is bulging in the middle and the voice asks, "Where is the goat?"

Another one I loved from a few years ago was a black furry cat sitting on the stairs sneezes and the fur just explodes all over the stairs.
