Womb Window and Arizona Leads the Way
Published on January 3, 2008 By Big Fat Daddy In Misc
Watching a commercial on TV about a new imaging process that shows a full size, 3-D image of an embryo in the womb, I heard the announcer say that now you can see the family resemblances in a week or two. And you can know for sure that it is a human life. I know what they were intending...the argument that it ain't people until whenever your favorite formula kicks in. But the way they stated it put the silliness of the whole argument on display. Of course it is a human. Giraffes don't come out of there. It doesn't matter at what point you choose to recognize it as human, if left alone it will be a human being 85 per cent of the time. No, the other 15 per cent aren't other species...they represent the natural abortions and still born babies. I know it is politically "fun" to argue these things, but c'mon...its a baby person.

Another news story today may not be as obvious...I think it is but you may not. The Great State of Arizona has a new law on employer responsibility that takes effect yesterday. Employers have to do an electronic SSAN check on new employees. Sounds pretty radical, huh? There are some heavy penaltlies attached to knowingly hiring illegals. So in response to this "hostile" attitude towards employers in Arizona, Carl's Jr. is removing itself from the state. There is already a noticable reduction in the low income work force...the illegals are moving to other states...where they can get work without all that "legal hassle".

While the debate rages on about who is and who ain't to blame, who should and who shouldn't be able to work, should we build a fence or not, are we racist or not, who's gonna cut my grass, clean my toilets, fry my Big Mac, (not your SuperStar...in Arizona anyway) and how the economy will fall on its face...Arizona went about fixing it in the only logical way. It cut off the incentive for being here illegally. Yippee-cayoh-cayay !!

Well, it isn't a perfect fix, but it is a darn good start. There is still the matter of drug smuggling, and Mexican military incursion into US soil...and the smuggling of illegals will continue until everyone gets it and starts cutting off the jobs. The fence is still a good idea, electronic surveillance is a good idea, arming the Border Patrol with automatic weapons is a good idea, putting Army combat arms units on the southern border is an even better idea. Blowing the crap out of invaders is a great idea. I wish someone would think of it. I don't know why the Federal government is soooo slow on this. I have heard all the conspiracy talk and how Bush is in league with the big business guys (landscaping, asphalt and fast food is a powerful cabal)...funny how he is so dumb he can't find his butt with both hands but is clever enough to set up all these conspiracies and keep 'em secret.

Just an aside for those who are inclined to preach to me about how the military isn't set up for border patrol work, they can't do that job...I spent most of my career in the Army in NATO, whose primary mission it was to keep the Russians and East Germans on their side of the border. I was in a Cav unit on the border, in numerous support units in varying echelons supporting the border troops....we must have done a pretty fair job for 46 years...and the Russians had a much more determined force than Mexico. So there.

I am just rambling, now. I should stop, I said what was on my mind. But I have a hard time understanding why some things are so obvious to me but seem to be shrouded in foggy, misty, mystery to others. Sometimes dinosaur eyes are better, I think.

The Arizona law is making news here, because Gov Dummitz and crew are fighting similar legislation (this governor really is stupid).  From what I hear, Arizona is doing it right - and with a Democrat governor too?  Shazaam!  Who would have thunk it!

I dont know how it will work with subcontractors.  Those that are day laborers?  is it required for them as well?  How about hiring a guy to pave your drive way?  Just wondering.

But I was thinking about your first observations.  About only human babies come out of human wombs.  I hate to disagree, but when you consider that Rosie Odonnel, Keith Olberman, Joy behar, et. al. came out of human wombs, that does kind of prove that asses are born of human wombs too.

Well, just to throw some gas on the fire you lit. No offense to your dinosaur eyes but I do love to argue and that's the mood I'm in this morning...

Do 'we' (the taxpaying public that foots the bill for all things hugely expensive) foot the bill for saving the baby human's life when it's born prematurely? Is it against nature/God/fate to save babies that are born weighing less than a pound when quite obviously the baby wouldn't survive without the aid of modern technology? Did God 'give' humans the intellectual capacity to develop such technology for the purpose of saving the premies? Is it 'cruel and unusual' punishment to subject these babies to medical procedures that, while possibly saving his/her life, may be simply prolonging an existence that is painful in every way? I know, not exactly the abortion debate, but questions that came to my mind when thinking about when my 'formula kicks in'.

And now, for the obvious...

Being a bean counter at heart, the only thing that's obvious to me about illegal immigration is that there is a need for the workers. It is simply supply and demand. If there wasn't a demand, there wouldn't be a need for the supply that we currently have. I do agree with Arizona's legislation. I do think that all workers need to pay income tax and FICA (except of course the legal American government workers who have their very own special retirement alternative to Social Security). Maybe rather than training the military to patrol the borders, we can train the lawmakers to enact some legislation to DOCUMENT the illegals that are working so the employers can start withholding and reporting the taxes withheld from their pay. Obviously, the US wouldn't want to collect FICA from illegals, but maybe enact a different tax that covers the use of public schools, health care, housing, etc. that is more applicable to the illegals.

Why cut off the incentive to be here? The illegals are just filling a demand that our country has for cheap labor. Why can't they work here as long as they pay the taxes that we pay? And maybe if we start documenting and taxing them they won't want to be here anyway. Win/Win in my opinion.

And, as you pointed out, while our troops are experienced in border patrol maybe they need a new challenge. Why not start training them to lay asphalt? Then we can just nuke the s*** out of the enitre Middle East and the troops can lay the pavement on which our oil rigs can drive.

See, we don't have to argue about everything

The supply and demand argument is the most often thrown...I am not sure it is valid. If we need low cost labor, allow legal immigration to cover it. The word "ILLEGAL" means something. Against the LAW. Every argument that can be made for can be countered against...if this is a social issue...it is NOT. Border security and control of who is allowed to enter and who can work here are not social questions they are questions of national security. Illegals have been found working at a secure sub base in San Diego...a contractor who was vetted was using illegals who were not. So who were these guys? Poor Pablo and Jose just trying to feed the kids...or Ahmed and Ali trying to get close to a place where they can do some damage. Am I being paranoid? Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they ain't out to get ya.

In response to the baby issue...I don't care. How much do you spend to keep a baby alive if it is born too soon? What kind of life will they have? Smart people can argue that stuff out all they want. The obvious thing is that it is a kid and if we can save it we should. Makiing decisions about life and death based on convenience is not a place we should be going to.

You know those meat packing plants in the midwest that got raided and saw their illegals hauled off? Those jobs were filled in a week by people from the local area. ??? But keep it coming, Curlygirl...love ya.

Rosie Odonnel, Keith Olberman, Joy behar, et. al. came out of human wombs,

The poster children for legalized abortions.

Far as I know, day laborers are the pool that is drying up...along with the low pay jobs...so I guess it affects all of 'em. In the case of you hiring a contractor...I'd want to be asking some pointed questions. If no one uses contractors who hire illegals, contractors won't hire illegals. Obvious.

But what if the contractor himself is an illegal?  That was what I was curious about.

Before you do business with any contractor, you should check him out...there are a lot of scammers in the construction trades, I would want to make sure a guy is on the up and up (not just with his employees but in all aspects) before I hired him. One good measure is a business license...illegals can't get 'em.

good luck finding a contractor who's not gonna screw you around somehow.
