Here in the Swirl, it is now 2105 hrs (9:05 pm for those who DON'T have a military mind).  The day will soon be over and I haven't heard one single mention of Pearl Harbor today.  I wonder why.  If I could blame it on the democrats, I would, but I don't think they are responsible.  I could try to blame it on the republicans, but they seem to be too busy whining and smoochin' Dem butt to consider anything historic.  I admit, I wasn't LOOKING for any mention of it, but it does seem strange that the whole day passed and no one even mentioned it.  Maybe it's because there are so few survivors that they don't have enough pull to rate the networks catering to them anymore.  I wonder how long it will take before we stop mentioning 9/11.

Well, so, anyway...it is still 7 December here, for another 169 minutes so I am not late in reminding you all that today, in 1941, the world changed.  It doesn't seem right to say, "Happy Pearl Harbor Day"...what do you say?  Maybe that's why no one has said anything.  They all forgot how to address it.  Well.  That's all I got.

We had several news stations here in VA do a 30 second blurb during the 6 PM and 11 PM news shows.  That was it.

I'm guessing that it has a lot to do with the fact that there are fewer survivors left (and fewer from that age, period) that it's not of as much wide spread interest.  Another thought that popped into my head - you see more news on the 5 year mark, than on the 1 year mark nowadays.  So, expect to see some more hype in 2011.

Pearl Harbor day has gone by thwe wayside, my friend. I have no reason to say why except the so called politically correct mammy jammers have done their job well.

For some, it was a silent rememberance.  For all, it should have at least been a rememberance.

I remember.

I think I am the only person in town to put my flag out on Dec. 7th. Seems everyone's forgotten around here or does not care. Heh, a little RoyLevosh trivia: my dad's ship, the U.S.S. Tangier was in Pearl that day and was the first to return fire during the attacks.

Thanks for the response, guys.  I remember, as well...well, not the actual day...I was about six years shy of being born!  But the Chief kept the rememberance alive in our home.  He was in high school when it happened and tried to enlist right away...about 14 at the time.  I had the chance to live there in the early sixties...they don't forget it on the island you betcha!  The Chief made it into the last two years of the war, aboard the California first, then on the Lansdowne through to the end.

Well apparently the good Rev. Wright (of Obama fame) remembered Hiroshima and Nagasaki on that day. Sounds like he (and his parishioners shaking like bobble heads) needs a history lesson. And he was once a Marine, sounds more like he was an army of one - no sense of camaraderie or maybe he puts it aside to make a few bucks. What a shame.

there was some really good stuff on the history channel

How Obama got away with having this piece of shit for a mentor and not be questioned about it during the campaign is beyond me.

What a shame.

Funny how he managed to keep his fat mouth shut until after the election, huh?

I missed it.

The fix was in from get...the need was for the FIRST...he got a free pass on everything including proving he was qualified to be the president (some question about his birth) and a free ride on all things from his past.
