There was a time in history when a country that made a declaration of war, is was taken seriously.

Let 'em hit the table. Isolating them obviously didn't work; let them see first hand that North Korea has little real strength in the face of any country with political relevancy. Besides, with the successor to KJI announced, now's the time to (be faking) listening to them.

Secondary edit: Seriously like any US president he's been shitty thus far.

My crybaby way of expressing a little awe at the way in which our new president has (after claiming his predecessor was guilty of same) bypassed the checks and balances of constitutionally established government and arbitrarily taken steps to federalize our banking and manufactoring industries...oh yeah, not YOUR government, huh?

Haha have you watched your government at all? How are you expecting any good from either side?

You wouldn't believe the ridiculous crap even the government of Canada has tried its hand at lately. Without getting into detail on the parliamentary system, the conservative government (currently and then the government in power) tried to write in a clause on a bill that would have denied public funding for parties not in power - essentially this would have destroyed all of its competition. Obviously this didn't make it very far. Then once the other parties attempted what amounts to a legalized restructuring of government, both sides started up with the blame game (seperatist was a buzz word for a few weeks, attempts to portray the proposed shift as illegal were made even though under parliamentary systems said proposal was legal). it was all in all a bloody mess and that's just one of the issues my nation seems to routinely and profoundly screw up.

It has been often stated and appears to be true that the first and foremost duty of all elected officials is to secure their re-election.  The "people" be damned.  A careful reading of the US constitution, especially the Bill of Rights, shows the founding fathers understood the ways of politicians and what they are capable of once elected into "power", those first ten amendments specifically LIMIT the power of the federal government.  But who reads that stuff anymore!

Hahahaha if it were only politicians who exploited people that'd be great. Read up on some of the stuff the medical company Bayer has done (this includes knowingly selling products tainted with AIDS), or most companies and feel your faith in mankind plummet.

You're too young to be so cynical, but I do understand.  I have seen a few things up close and personal that have put a serious dent in my faith in humankind.  Gotta keep the hope, though.

It's not that I am cynical; rather it is that I am critical. I see no reason to ignore the faults you can spot; being vocal about them is the first step in effecting changes to a system.

I agree whole-heartedly...if we're talking about a free society.  In too many places on earth, speaking out is the first step in waking up dead.

Well obviously in that case you need to wait for the right moment, and we do have extensive testimonials from NK defectors. But as I'm in a free nation, I can speak up all I please (and have). It's even worked a few times.
